Apple has announced Apple Home Collection, a new range of smart home accessories built with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. It includes four cameras, a deadbolt lock, two thermostats and two temperature sensors. The lock, thermostats and sensors are Matter compatible, and every Home Collection product supports Thread. Apple also introduced three hubs on the same day, the HomeView display, a fourth generation Apple TV 4K and the HomePod mini 2. Pre-orders for the hubs are open now, and the accessories follow in December.

What Is in Apple Home Collection

LG makes the four cameras, which are a wired Video Doorbell, a Floodlight Cam, an Outdoor Cam and an Indoor Cam. LG also supplies the Smart Deadbolt Lock, a Smart Thermostat and a Temperature Sensor, while Schneider Electric adds its own Schneider Home Smart Thermostat and Room Sensor. Every product sets up with one tap on an iPhone running the latest software, which uses NFC pairing, and runs entirely in the Home app with no separate app or account.

The lock uses Ultra Wideband to unlock automatically as you approach with a home key on an iPhone or Apple Watch. It also has a PIN pad and a hidden backup key slot, and it detects when the door is opened, closed or tampered with. Guest access is shared directly from the Home app.

Matter and Thread Support

Apple calls the lock, both thermostats and both sensors Matter compatible. The lock also supports Aliro and works locally, so core access functions keep running without an internet connection. Apple says every product in the lineup supports Thread, which helps them stay connected if Wi-Fi drops, and they update their network credentials on their own if you change your Wi-Fi. The release doesn’t label the cameras or the doorbell as Matter compatible, so that part isn’t confirmed.

Apple describes Home Collection as a set of recommended products that builds on the thousands of Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories already available. The thermostats can read temperature and humidity across rooms from the LG and Schneider sensors, or from the sensors built into HomeView, HomePod and HomePod mini. Both thermostats are DIY-friendly and detect wiring on the device to make installation easier.

HomeView, Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2

HomeView has a 7-inch display and an A18 chip, and it recognizes up to six people by face. It comes as a tabletop model and a wall-mounted model, which uses mounts from Schneider Home. The spec page lists Thread, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6.0 and a temperature and humidity sensor.

The new Apple TV 4K has an A19 chip, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread and Gigabit Ethernet in a single 128GB model. It supports automations, guest mode and local processing of HomeKit Secure Video, now with Apple Intelligence video descriptions.

The HomePod mini 2 lists Thread, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6, an Ultra Wideband chip and a temperature and humidity sensor. Siri AI arrives on it in a later software update, and with Home Collection doorbells and cameras it can announce who is at the door.

All three list Thread on their spec pages and work with HomeKit and Matter Thread accessories. Apple doesn’t say whether they act as Thread border routers, though the earlier HomePod mini, HomePod (2nd generation) and Ethernet Apple TV 4K models do.
