Ubiquiti has started rolling out UniFi Network Application 11.0.83, and the update lets you commission Matter Thread devices inside UniFi to monitor their status and connectivity. UniFi calls this “Matter aware,” since it sits alongside your existing Matter controller and doesn’t replace it. The rollout is happening in stages, so the update may not show up for everyone right away.

How Matter Thread Monitoring Works

The release notes only mention Matter devices that run over Thread. To add one, you commission it in UniFi using its Matter pairing code. UniFi’s announcement says each device then shows details like battery level, firmware version and signal strength, along with how it connects to the Matter network. The release notes themselves only say status and connectivity.

UniFi also says IP and Thread devices appear together in one topology view, with custom alerts for critical devices on either network. The update adds Time Machine to the Topology page as well, so you can look back at how the network changed over time.

This is monitoring, not control. Your automations and device control stay with your current Matter controller, and UniFi adds a view of how those devices are doing.

Requirements

The feature needs a UniFi OS Gateway running 6.0.10 or newer, and the Network Application itself requires UniFi OS 6.0 or newer. mDNS must be enabled. IPv6 must also be enabled on the network that hosts your Thread Border Routers, since UniFi detects the border routers already on your network, such as an Apple TV or HomePod.

The release notes don’t mention a built-in border router in UniFi hardware. Separately, Ubiquiti’s upcoming SuperLink Gateway HA is reported to include a Thread border router, though Ubiquiti hasn’t said how it would work with UniFi’s Matter monitoring.
