Zemismart Launches New M1 Pro Hub with Matter, Thread, and IR Control

Zemismart has released a new Matter Hub, labelled as the M1 Pro. This device is an official successor to the M1 and aims to simplify local smart home integration. The M1 Pro functions as a multi protocol hub that connects Zigbee and Thread devices directly to major platforms like Apple Home and SmartThings. The M1 Pro also includes an integrated infrared transmitter to control legacy appliances alongside modern smart devices.

Unifying Smart Home Standards

Zemismart’s new M1 Pro Matter hub consolidates Zigbee, Thread and Matter protocols into a single control unit. The primary function involves bringing legacy devices into modern smart ecosystems like Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant. Users can connect up to 128 Zigbee accessories directly to the bridge.

The system then translates these connections and exposes the compatible hardware to your preferred Matter controller on the local network. A significant hardware upgrade over previous Zemismart iterations involves the addition of dual band Wi-Fi. The M1 Pro now supports wireless setups on both 2.4 and 5.0 gigahertz bands instead of relying exclusively on a wired Ethernet connection.

Integrated Infrared Control for Legacy Appliances

A standout addition to the M1 Pro is the built in infrared transmitter. This component allows users to integrate traditional appliances like air conditioners and televisions directly into their smart home automations. Placing this hub in a living room eliminates the need for standalone IR blasters. The functionality rivals more expensive competitors like the Aqara M3 but arrives at a much lower price point. Users can currently find the unit on the official Zemismart store for 69 USD.

Strengthening Networks During the Matter Transition

Deploying the M1 Pro adds another Thread Border Router to your existing setup. This expands the physical reach and stability of your local Thread network alongside devices like HomePods or Apple TVs. While native Matter devices do not need a bridge, this hardware solves a crucial problem for the current transitional phase of smart home technology. Here’s how the M1 Pro compared to the previous M1 and M6 Zemismart hubs:

From my perspective, managing various smart home configurations, upgrading an entire household to native Matter hardware is financially impractical for most people. A capable bridge provides a necessary middle ground. It allows us to retain our perfectly functional Zigbee sensors and legacy appliances while still taking advantage of unified local control across different platforms.

The M1 Pro acknowledges this reality and offers a cost effective way to modernize a mixed device portfolio.
