IKEA recently started rolling out the TOFSMYGGA outdoor smart plug across Europe. This new device brings Matter over Thread connectivity to your garden lights and exterior equipment. Outdoor smart plugs can often have network drop outs if they are installed far from your router when using Wi-Fi. The TOFSMYGGA bypasses this limitation by tapping directly into your local Thread network instead.
Local Control for Outdoor Devices
The TOFSMYGGA plug connects directly to your smart home using Matter over Thread. You do not need a dedicated manufacturer hub to make it work. The plug will pair immediately as long as you have a standard Thread border router on your network.
While some have been reporting pairing issues with new IKEA thread devices, Thread’s mesh capabilities are very useful for outdoor setups where Wi-Fi signals often drop out. Thread mesh networks provide much better stability for exterior walls and gardens. Once connected you can toggle the power remotely and add the plug to your daily automation schedules alongside your indoor devices.
Energy Tracking and Automation
This new plug does more than just switch things on and off. It actively tracks the power consumption of whatever you plug into it. You can monitor this energy usage through the IKEA smart app to better understand your outdoor power habits. The device also supports physical triggers and local controls. You can link up to ten plugs to a single motion sensor or smart remote. This makes it very simple to light up an entire patio area the moment you step outside.
Weather Resistance and Pricing
IKEA designed the TOFSMYGGA specifically for exterior environments. The unit has an IP44 rating to protect against dust and water when the protective lid is closed. It features a compact black plastic body that blends easily into dark outdoor settings. The plug is currently listed on the Swedish IKEA website for 149 SEK and is showing up in other European markets with a retail price around 13 Euros. This low price point makes it an easy choice if you want to expand your Matter network into the backyard without spending a fortune.
